8 First Time Home Owner Tips & Hacks I Wish Someone Told Me...

Updated: Mar 15, 2022

  • Don't over decorate your home. Styles tend to change overtime. The more decor/knick-knacks you have laying around on top of surfaces the more time you spend dusting and cleaning. Don't forget simple is more, which allows cleaning to be so much faster and easier.

  • Just because it’s a good deal, doesn't mean you have to purchase it. Your home can quickly become a cluttered mess. 90% of the time, we don't end up using the products we buy on a daily basis. Those objects end up getting donated or never used just over in the corner collecting dust.

  • Use Facebook market, Goodwill or a local thrift store to purchase gently used furniture. You can save tons of money on furniture by buying gently used items. All it takes is a creative mind, the right tools, and paint to bring a piece of furntiure back to life.

  • To kill weeds in your yard DO NOT HAND PULL them. You can risk getting poison sumac/ivy. Use the weedwhacker to knock it all down or lawnmower to run it over and then spray the weeds with weed killer.

  • There is only 2 of us in the household. For kitchen silverware, plates and bowls, you will only need a set of 4. Buying multiple sets was not necessary because we barely entertain people.

  • Unless you really love spending time outside, If you have a deck/patio, don't rush buying patio furniture, especially living in georgia. We barely used ours.

  • Do not live out of moving boxes. Store items in clear bins with labels. It is easier see and organize things when items are place inside a clear box. When they are stored in covered containers things tend to become "out-of-sight-out-of-mind."

  • Trim your bushes down to the knub. One of the hardest yard chores we do during the hot summer is maintaing the yard. Save your self the trouble and trim your bushes as low as you can make them.
